# Digitalization of Seaweed Boosts the Economy of Pangkahkulon Village Residents

**Gresik** – Digitalization efforts are starting to bring significant changes to the seaweed cultivation sector in Pangkahkulon Village, Ujungpangkah District. The village government together with various parties continues to develop the use of digital technology to support community services, marketing local products, and strengthening the fisheries sector and seaweed cultivation, which is one of the village's superior potentials. The Head of Pangkahkulon Village, Ahmad Fauron, explained that the digital transformation carried out by the village was not only focused on administrative services, but was also directed at increasing the competitiveness of pond products, including seaweed. Through village information systems and various technology-based innovations, it is easier for people to access information, training and wider product marketing opportunities. ([TIMES Gresik][2])

The digitalization program developed in the village has provided application-based administration services and independent platforms that make it easier for residents to take care of various needs from home. This innovation has even become a reference for a number of other village governments who want to implement a similar system. ([TIMES Gresik][2])

In the economic sector, digitalization also supports community business development through digital stalls and promotion of local products. Recent research shows that Pangkahkulon Village has succeeded in developing a digital marketing system for MSMEs and village businesses, thus expanding market access for the community's superior products. Meanwhile, the seaweed sector shows promising developments. The Pangkahkulon Red and White Village Cooperative succeeded in obtaining a HACCP certificate from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as an important requirement to penetrate the export market. This achievement opens up greater opportunities for residents' seaweed cultivation results to be marketed internationally. ([lampumerah.id][3])

With the support of digital technology, starting from data management, product promotion, to strengthening cooperative institutions, Pangkahkulon Village is optimistic that it will be able to improve the welfare of pond farmers and seaweed business actors. This transformation is also an example of how coastal villages can utilize digitalization to strengthen local resource-based economies. ([ITS Journals][1])
